Biography

Dr. Lisa Clarke received her undergraduate education from Queen’s University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology and minor in Health Studies. She continued her education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic in 2009. In addition to her chiropractic training, Dr. Clarke is also certified in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture through McMaster University. She regularly attends seminars to update her knowledge as a chiropractor and learn new techniques. Her current educational interests pertain to women's health and pregnancy (Webster certified) as well as concussion management. As a chiropractor, Dr. Clarke specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of conditions and disorders relating to the skeletal, nervous, and muscular systems. She believes in addressing the body as a whole and finding and treating the source of the problem rather than just the symptoms. Treatment is aimed at improving performance and optimizing function using evidence-based care. Compensation patterns, which develop over time, need to be addressed and corrected in order to rehabilitate and prevent injury. Treatments may include soft tissue release, adjustments of the joints of the spine and/or extremities, acupuncture, electro-modalities, exercise prescription, custom orthotics, and lifestyle and nutritional advice. Dr. Clarke will work with you to create a plan of management that is tailored to your specific needs and goals. Everyone in the family can benefit from her care.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?

I have experience in treating a wide range of conditions from back and neck pain to temporomandibular joint disorder (jaw pain and clicking) and shoulder, wrist, knee, and ankle injuries. I am also certified to provide medical acupuncture, which can be helpful as an adjunct to hands-on care and rehabilitative exercises. I take the time to listen to your concerns and come up with a plan of care that will best suit your needs.

What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?

I use many techniques, but most often rely on soft tissue release, joint mobilization or manipulation, and acupuncture treatments. That said, I like to involve my patients in their care, so I usually prescribe stretching and strengthening exercises to correct imbalances that are a cause and/or result of the pain and dysfunction they are experiencing.

What are you proud of in your practice?

I’m proud of the variety of treatments I am able to provide. I participate in continuing education to learn new techniques and keep up to date.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?

Chiropractic care is especially helpful for low back injuries, even those that involve pain into the buttocks or legs. “Sciatic” pain is well relieved with the techniques I use and it’s nice to see patients reactions to how much better they feel with chiropractic care. Of course, I enjoy treating all types of injuries and conditions from head to toe. It’s interesting to figure out not only where a patient’s pain is coming from, but also to play detective and figure out what may have caused a condition in those cases where there is no clear mechanism of injury. This involves a lot of talking with patients, which is one of the main reasons I love my job!

I saw Dr. Clarke for some pain in my back and I really enjoyed the whole process. The assessment was very thorough and she really seemed interested in getting to the reason why I was experiencing pain in the first place. Everything was explained well. The treatment was great. Pressure was firm with the muscle work, and her adjustments were quite comfortable. I felt better leaving the office.
