Dr. Wanyun (Wendy) Xue was born in Shanghai, China and came to the U.S. (New York) at age 9. She grew up on the east coast and has been involved with children from her young teenage years: being a camp counselor, tutor and volunteering at the hospital. Dr. Wendy completed her bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 2002 and went forward to obtain D.D.S from Columbia University in 2007, and finally finished her training in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry in 2009 at UMDNJ. Dr. Wendy takes a rather conservative approach to dentistry and believes that prevention should be the main goal in the field of pediatrics. She believes in not only educating the parents in caries prevention, but also in building a positive and trusting relationship with the children. "Establishing a dental home early in a child's life is the most important factor in preventing disease and creating a comfortable environment for patients". "Dental fear is something that can develop at an extremely young age and continue into adulthood, and I believe that building relationships while treating disease will prevent that." Dr. Wendy is also experienced in treating children with special needs. Dr Wendy is licensed to practed in New Jersey and New York, and is also licensed to provide oral conscious sedation as a treatment option.

What are you and your team proud of at your practice?

It's important to start children early in the right direction to good dental hygiene. A starting time for that first dental exam is when your child has a total of eight teeth, usually around age one. You can make the first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. Your child should be informed of the visit and told that the dentist and staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions. The less to-do concerning the visit, the better. It is best to refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as needle, pull, drill or hurt. Pediatric dental offices make a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to a child.
