Dr. Thakrar has worked in optometry clinics in both Canada and the US. She held the role of Director of Contact Lens Service at the Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She also participated in research activities in collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Thakrar enjoys seeing patients of all ages. She has special interests dry eye, keratoconus and fitting contact lens patients, including astigmatism, bifocals, rigid lenses, and scleral lenses. In recent years she has served as a contributing editor for the journals Contact Lens Spectrum and The Eye Care Review and has written many articles on various optometric topics. She also speaks in the United States and Canada on contact lenses and eye diseases. She has received contact lens awards from Johnson and Johnson Vision Care, CibaVision, the GP Lens Institute and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Dr. Thakrar graduated in 2001 from The Ohio State University College of Optometry, followed by a one year fellowship in Cornea and Contact Lenses from the New England College of Optometry in Boston. Her residency rotations included the prestigious Boston Foundation for Sight, Boston’s Cornea Consultants and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. Upon completion, she was the first recipient of the Johnson & Johnson Contact Lens Resident of the Year Award. She is an avid traveler. She loves to experience different cultures and environments, and as a result has travelled to 30 countries in 6 continents. She has also volunteered to see thousands of patients in Mexico, Venezuela and Costa Rica. Her hobbies include swimming and scuba diving.
