Biography

Brooke Stelmach graduated with her Master's of Science in Physical Therapy from Queen's University in 2006, after completing her undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Health with honours at the University of Toronto in 2003. Brooke currently holds her Level 3 in Manual Therapy with the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She has taken post graduate courses in vestibular rehabilitation and the tempomandibular joint, and continues to enroll in post graduate studies to keep current with the latest research and to refine her clinical assessment and treatment skills. She also has been a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association's Sports and Orthopaedic divisions since 2007. Brooke has experience treating all age groups with various repetitive strain, sport and physical activity injuries, post operative orthopaedic conditions, and aches and pains that arise from work or daily activities. She has a special interest in treating clients with tempomandibular joint (TMJ) and vestibular (i.e. vertigo, BPPV) dysfunctions. She ensures each client's injury is thoroughly assessed and treated with a client centered approach to help facilitate a complete and quick recovery. She also educates clients about their injury and encourages them to take an active role in their rehabilitation to speed up their recovery and maintain or improve their performance or function, and to help avoid the possibility of future injuries.

What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?

The top three treatments that I focus on are manual therapy, evidence based treatment and exercise prescription, and client education.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?

I enjoy treating all cases that come into our clinic whether it’s chronic or acute. I enjoy educating clients about how they can play an active role in their rehabilitation with a client centered approach to treatment which suits their lifestyle, fitness level and ability, and demanding work schedule. Also, teaching them how taking an active role in their physiotherapy can speed up and improve their recovery, and prevent future injuries, impairments and dysfunctions. I do however have an interest in treating clients who have tempomandibular joint problems (TMJ/jaw), vestibular dysfunctions (i.e. vertigo, BPPV) and nerve pain (i.e. sciatica, radiculopathy), and have taken post graduate courses in these areas to refine my assessment and treatment for these conditions.

What are you proud of in your practice?

I’m proud that my education, experience in outpatient orthopedics and continued education in post graduate studies allows me to help clients achieve the results they want and deserve, and be satisfied with the treatment they receive with each visit. I’m also proud that previous clients who have been satisfied with their results and treatment, trust me with their future physiotherapy needs, and often refer me to their colleagues, friends and family.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?

I have over ten years of experience as a Registered Physiotherapist with my Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from Queen’s University (2006), honours degree in Physical Education and Health from the University of Toronto (2003), level three Manual Therapy certification from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, and have successfully passed the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario Practice Audit to ensure clients receive safe, quality and ethical treatment. I have successfully treated clients of all ages, levels of fitness and ability, and have assisted them on the road to recovery and independence as soon as possible. I have achieved these outcomes for clients by taking the time to listen to a client’s needs and goals, taking a thorough history, and by performing a detailed physical examination to get to the root cause of their injury, pain, impairment or dysfunction. I also ensure clients get as much one on one time with me during treatment sessions, which enables clients to address any questions and concerns they may have to make sure clients feel confident and well informed about their treatment and recovery.
