Biography

Helen achieved an Honours Bachelor of Arts with Specialization in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario in 2015. She was intrigued by Physiotherapy and helping people through movement after a decade working as a swim instructor. She successfully earned her Masters of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto in 2017. Since then, Helen has been actively pursuing additional skills through advanced manual therapy courses, acupuncture, soft tissue release techniques and taping. Helen's treatment approach has proven to be successful and her patients enjoy the care they receive. She utilizes a hands-on approach to provide individualized treatment through manual therapy, soft tissue release and exercise prescription. Her goal for every patient is to treat the injury but also to address compensatory movements and provide patients with strategies to prevent re-injury in the future. From a young age, Helen has enjoyed a very active lifestyle. She has participated in many different sports and physical activities from running and gymnastics to curling. Helen currently competes in dragon boat paddling where she has had the opportunity to represent Canada on the U24 National team at the World Nations Championships in 2017. Helen has experienced her fair share of injuries with paddling and is able to empathize with her clients and can relate to the impact that injury has on training and daily life. When not in the clinic, you can often find Helen in the gym or paddling on the water training with her dragonboat team. Helen is also fluent in speaking Cantonese.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?

I spend time listening to my patients, treating the root of the injury and providing strategies for patients to self manage future injuries. I work together with my patients being creative with exercises keeping in mind their access to equipment, space and time. Not only do I treat the physical impairment, I incorporate pain science education to help patients overcome the fear of re-injury. I provide one-on-one treatment sessions incorporating manual therapy, exercises and encourage lifestyle changes that will improve the overall wellness of my client.

What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?

Manual therapy Return to sport/ activity training Acupuncture

What are you proud of in your practice?

I’m proud to be able to change clients view on exercise and help them incorporate more exercise into their daily routine. I enjoy helping others and the ability to create a therapeutic alliance with all my clients. Seeing my clients improve and reach their goals is very satisfying and validates the success my treatment approach.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?

I enjoy treating the return to sport/activity phase for all areas of the body. I enjoy working on re-training movement patterns and optimizing strength and power. I enjoy seeing the progression in these clients not only physically but mentally as they see themselves getting closer to their return to sport/activity. These clients challenge me to think outside the box and develop individualized, creative exercise programming.
