Biography

Jen graduated from the University of Toronto in 2018 with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. Prior to that she completed her Specialized Honours Degree in Kinesiology at York University. Jen has been involved in the rehabilitation of diverse populations since 2013, and has developed a keen interest in working with patients who present with orthopedic conditions. She strongly believes in the significance of attaining a comprehensive client history and assessment to ensure a specialized treatment plan is developed with the goal of returning the client back to their sport, activity or general function. Jen also values hands-on manual therapy techniques, customized exercise programs and patient education, as she believes these components of physiotherapy are integral to obtaining positive clinical outcomes. Jen completed her post-graduate Level 1 Manual Therapy Certification, and will be pursuing subsequent manual therapy levels, dry-needling, and Mackenzie courses in the upcoming year. Jen understands the importance of continuing education, and is motivated to be applying the latest evidence-based research to her practice. Jen has had a strong passion for sports and athletics from a young age. She grew up playing competitive, national level tennis from the age of 7, and was also involved in track and field and volleyball. Growing up playing these sports helped develop her proficiency in goal setting, communication and leadership skills, which she hopes to incorporate in her practice to motivate her clients to take an active role in their therapy. When Jen isn’t at the gym or playing tennis or volleyball, you can find her baking, painting or trying to find the best places to eat in the city. She also loves to travel, and has visited several European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Nicaragua, and Belize. Jen can also speak Russian fluently.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?

I believe that a successful physiotherapist is one who listens to their clients’ stories and concerns, while demonstrating a sense of understanding and compassion in regards to their injury. Not only do I make clients feel valued and heard, I also provide them with evidence based therapeutic techniques, education, and customized exercise programs to help them recover from their injury as quickly as possible. Most positive clinical outcomes occur outside of the clinic, which is why it is my goal to empower clients to take control of their rehabilitation by providing customized exercise programs, self-remediating techniques and day-to-day tips to achieve lasting improvements in symptoms, and to avoid future recurrences of their condition. I am also a strong believer in my patients having a strong understanding of their injury and how certain therapeutic techniques are benefiting them; therefore, I encourage clients to reach out to me on their days off from treatment or even after they are discharged if they have any questions or concerns. Continuing education is of upmost importance to me in the physical therapy profession, which is why I intend on taking various orthopedic courses and attending informational sessions to help broaden my knowledge and expertise in my scope of practice. My dedication to providing the best possible service to my clients motivates me to complete research on my clients’ specific injury to ensure I have a thorough understanding of the root pain contributors.

What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?

My treatment focuses on education around the injury and the factors that contribute or help alleviate the pain; manual therapy techniques, including joint mobilizations and soft tissue/active release techniques; and customized exercise prescriptions.

What are you proud of in your practice?

I am proud that I have the opportunity to make a positive impact on how a person feels physically and emotionally. It makes me happy to empower clients to be active participators in their recovery through stressing the importance of therapeutic exercises, and providing education on pain contributors. It is a gratifying feeling witnessing patients completely recovering from their injuries, and achieving optimal physical health levels.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?

The types of injuries that clients come to see a physiotherapist for are endless, and no two injuries are ever the same. I enjoy treating all conditions because patients respond so differently and you are always learning something new with each case. Shoulders are interesting to treat because of the complexity of the joint as well as the multitude of structures surrounding the shoulder that can be worked on to help rehabilitate the injury.
