Miral Patel is a 2012 graduate from the Queen’s University Master’s in Physical Therapy program. She is now an orthopaedic and pelvic health physiotherapist who is also certified in medical acupuncture. Miral has experience working in private practice clinics as well as in a public hospital since 2012. Her experience includes treating musculoskeletal injuries, post-operative rehab, as well as pelvic floor dysfunction. She enjoys working with all types of clients and believes treatment should be patient centered, individualized and include a combination of manual therapy, exercise therapy, and most importantly, patient education. Miral values continuing education and has taken numerous post-graduate courses in the areas of acupuncture, advanced manual therapy and pelvic floor dysfunction. Her special interest in pelvic floor dysfunction has led her to work alongside an urologist at the Toronto Western Hospital to advance her knowledge of pelvic floor conditions in both men and women. Common pelvic floor conditions that can be treated with pelvic floor physiotherapy include, but are not limited to urinary/fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, constipation and gastro-intestinal disorders. Miral also has extensive experience working with women both pre-natal and post-partum to ensure a healthy pelvic floor both before and after giving birth. When Miral is not in clinic, she can be found enjoying the outdoors or indulging in good food
Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?
I enjoy variety!! Seeing the same body part repeatedly can get boring. I love treating all sorts of injuries. I’ve taken a special interest in pelvic floor physiotherapy most recently. It’s a growing area of need and not many physiotherapists provide that service. I also enjoy working with post-surgical patients. I’ve worked closely with many orthopaedic surgeons and feel they have given me a good background in what actually happens during surgery. I believe it’s important to acknowledge patient fears after a surgery and gently guide them back to their regular activities.
What are you proud of in your practice?
I take great pride in making sure my assessments are thorough and accurate. I believe in evaluating and re-evaluating as the patient continues their care with me. Each of my treatment plans are individualized to the patient and suit their expectations and needs. I also believe it is extremely important that the patient has a good understanding of what we are doing and why. Therefore I place an emphasis on educating my patients on their dysfunction and how they can play an active role in their recovery.
What are the top 3 treatments that you specialize in?
Manual Therapy, Acupuncture, Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
Miral brings a wide variety of experience to our clinic. In the past 3 years she has worked in hospital as well as in private clinics. Her hospital experience has allowed her to work closely with various doctors and orthopaedic surgeons. She has also taken numerous post-graduate courses in manual therapy, acupuncture and pelvic floor physiotherapy to expand her knowledge in physiotherapy.
