After completing my Physiotherapy degree in 2011, I was fortunate enough to land my dream job - teaching at the university while working as a clinician and clinical preceptor for paediatric and neurological clinics. I developed a passion for working with children during my very first clinical placement as a student PT. I enjoyed the daily interaction with the kids and their families, and felt immense fulfillment with every little milestone that we accomplished in each clinic day. During the first few years of my career, I focused on developing skills in early intervention (assessing and facilitating motor skills in infants 0-12 months old), as well as implementing neuromotor techniques to facilitate functional abilities for children with disabilities. I gained experience in dealing with diverse children’s skill sets, and pursued further training in paediatric neurodevelopmental therapy (Bobath approach) and paediatric sports injuries. As I pushed on with my career, I became more experienced in the wider world of orthopedics and pursued training in the McKenzie method of mechanical diagnosis and treatment. Eventually, I was led to discover a keen interest in women’s health and pregnancy through my frequent interactions with new moms and moms-to-be. This kindled a fascination with the immense changes and challenges that a woman’s body goes through within the prenatal and postpartum months. Because of this, I obtained training and certification for pelvic floor physiotherapy, and I am continuing to pursue further knowledge in women’s health, nutrition and wellness.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?

My approach to physiotherapy is rooted in relationship-centred care. My patients are aware that when they come in, they are free to share all of their concerns regarding their symptoms and how it affects their daily lives. In the clinical world, this is often referred to as the “biopsychosocial“ or “psychoneuroimmunological“ approach. It recognizes the critical value of balancing stress management with addressing physical symptoms. Furthermore, I continually take courses in Orthopaedic, Pelvic Floor, and Paediatric physiotherapy to keep myself informed on new evidence and treatment techniques for the benefit of my patients.

What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?

1. Education on anatomy, pain and movement mechanisms 2. Functional training (I prefer working on task specific exercises rather than muscle specific) 3. Hands-on techniques (soft-tissue and active release, guided stretches)

What are you proud of in your practice?

I am always pleased to bring a diverse perspective to physiotherapy care, as I have seen patients of all ages in my career so far! My experiences working in various fields of physiotherapy have allowed me to gain a broad range of clinical skills. These experiences are what encourage me to be patient, creative, and an empathetic physiotherapist. I am most proud when my patients feel empowered in their ability to care for themselves. I am also equally proud when they entrust me with the care of their friends and other family members as well.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?

I am most excited to treat children with varying levels of motor abilities (ranging from children with developmental delays to young athletes). I enjoy engaging and educating kids, parents, and families. Plus, it’s fun when physio looks like play! I am also very passionate about working with women in their childbearing years, as well as everyone experiencing pelvic health concerns. The ability to address pelvic floor dysfunction allows me to reach into a higher level of care. Not only does it strongly involve manual therapy and exercise prescription skills, but neuropsychological techniques as well. Lastly, I thoroughly enjoy helping patients with chronic or persistent pain. I have encountered many on a combined pain relief / lifestyle management journey. Each encounter provides insight into lifestyle habits, which enables me to apply highly individualized approaches to “living your best life”!
