Biography

Tuan’s journey into the world of fitness and sports training began early in high school. As a member of the wrestling and football team, he realized the value of sport-specific training and incorporation of the SAID principle when training (Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demand) –that is, applying specific exercises that addresses specific weaknesses (e.g. power, strength, agility, speed, etc.) in order to enhance performance. Additionally, Tuan holds a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do with experience in martial arts training and has competed in several US competitions.   Tuan graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology and went on to complete his Masters in Physiotherapy in 2003. Tuan has had extensive experience working with patients in the hospital acute care and inpatient setting dealing with orthopedic and cardiac post-operative care, and patients with neurological impairments as a result of strokes, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and spinal cord injuries.   Since 2009 Tuan has focused his attention to sports medicine rehabilitation working with patients of various ages, background and fitness level. Tuan utilizes various modalities (ultrasound, muscle stimulation, acupuncture, shockwave therapy) but focuses on manual therapy techniques in his rehabilitation regiment. Tuan has a strong foundation in working with patient with acute and chronic low back and neck pain, and repetitive strain injuries.   Additionally, Tuan has been accredited by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a certified strength and conditioning specialist since 2005 and completed the McMaster Contemporary Medical Acupuncture program in 2009.   In 2014 Tuan was part of the medical team for the IIHF World Junior Championship and in 2015 Tuan was proud to be a part of the medical team for the Pan Am Games, treating athletes from all over Pan America.   Tuan’s philosophy in rehabilitation is simple: concise assessment allows for precise detection of the root to the problem. Treating the cause and not the symptoms equates to a more effective, sustainable and speedy recovery. Incorporating strength training to weak muscles and ensuring sufficient flexibility to tight muscles will reduce the chances of future injuries. Balance and harmony, in life, is the key to healthy living. With Tuan’s diverse background, he will be able to create a tailor-made rehabilitation and fitness training program specifically for you and for your goals. Let Tuan help you achieve balance and harmony in your life.
