Dr. Sonya Hamilton completed her Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto, and continued her education at the University of Edinburgh where she completed her Masters of Science in Public Health Research. Dr. Hamilton graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, and has been in private practice since 2014. She has a broad background working in both a fitness oriented environment, as well as within a community family-practice setting. She is passionate about educating others on how to regain control over their own physical health and wellness. Her approach to care emphasizes the interrelationship between structure, stressors and function of the body, and the importance of ergonomics. She supports patients as they recover from pain and injury, and aides in the transition to self-management and injury prevention. Treatment techniques include diversified adjustments/mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, kinesiology taping, and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. Dr. Hamilton studied Webster Technique, and she works closely to support mothers-to-be, as they experience musculoskeletal changes throughout pregnancy and beyond. She works hard to keep up to date with the most current research and education in the field of manual therapy and exercise, and she practices an evidence-based approach to care. Sonya was born and raised in the west end of Toronto, and enjoys spending her free time in the summer camping in Algonquin, and biking to Toronto Island.
Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
I work to gain a full understanding of the issues at hand, and work to determine the causes. I provide my patients with tools to assist themselves to recover quicker and more long term. Care with me has an active focus, and I work to support patients with their own self-management techniques. I also have a wide breadth of knowledge and experience in treating pregnant patients. Please call the clinic to inquire about a complimentary 15-min consult.
What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?
I individualize all of the treatments based on the patient's needs and preferences, but typically my top three treatments are: 1. Adjustments/Mobilizations/Soft tissue therapy 2. Rehabilitative Exercise 3. Pregnancy Care
What are you proud of in your practice?
Seeing my patients get better, and gaining the understanding of how they can help themselves be and stay well.
Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?
I have helped a variety of patients with issues related to the spine as well as in the extremities. My patients range from those who are athletic and active, to sedentary office workers. Pregnant patients also seek out my assistance in managing upper and low back pain throughout pregnancy and beyond. I have helped others with complex concerns, and have worked with several special populations including those with HIV, and seniors.
