What makes your practice special when compared with others in the area?

At 239 beds, Fairmount Behavioral Health System is recognized as a premier provider of behavioral health services and is the largest freestanding behavioral health hospital in Southeastern Pennsylvania. For over 80 years Fairmount has been a major regional resource for children, adolescents and adults who have psychiatric, behavioral or addiction problems. Fairmount is fully accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC). Fairmount provides unique Inpatient Psychiatric Programming for Adults: • Young Adults (18yo-30yo) • High Acuity- Patients who present with aggression or who require close observation • Short Term Assessment/Triage Unit • Dual Diagnosis (MH/SA) • Chronic Mental Illness Children and adolescents experience many physical and emotional changes. But for some, life becomes overwhelming due to underlying depression, family conflicts or reaction to stress, trauma or abuse. We assist children and adolescents in developing effective coping skills and building self-esteem to be able to return home and back to school. Our Child and Adolescent Inpatient Program is highlighted by the following: • Educational Groups (medication education, illness education, healthy lifestyles, communication, anger management, coping skills, etc) • Group Therapy- goal-directed modality, concentrated in the present, builds on strengths and focuses on solutions. • Individual Therapy-Our therapists use a variety of modalities — art, music, movement, cognitive and behavioral approaches, mindful¬ness techniques, and recreation — to provide optional avenues of expression, help the child learn about himself or herself and start to make desired changes. • Family Therapy- provided weekly by our social work department to foster communication skills, cohesion, and adaptability between youth and their caretakers. • Parent Education and Support Group- provides opportunities to educate parents about mental illness, appropriate behavioral expectations, limit setting techniques and emotional support • A Strengths-Based Phase System for adolescents which focuses on empowerment and self-expression • Separate and distinct units for Children (5-10 years old); Young Adolescents (10-12 years old); Adolescent boys (13-17 years old); and Adolescent girls (13-17 years old). We offer a specialized Gender-Responsive Program for Adolescent Fairmount’s residential chemical dependency services provide detoxification and rehabilitation for patients aged 18 and above. Fairmount’s Chemical Dependency Program offers two levels of care: • A 21-bed detoxification unit which provides a safe environment for the medical monitoring of withdrawal symptoms from alcohol, benzodiazepine or opiate addiction and the associated withdrawal symptoms. • Two gender specific rehabilitation programs (a 26-bed men’s unit and a 19-bed women’s unit) for individuals who need a supportive and structured setting in order to begin the process of recovery. Fairmount also offers an Acute Partial Hospitalization Program for adults and adolescents 14 years and older. Our Acute Partial Program is designed to help those individuals who need more structured and focused care than can be provided in outpatient treatment. It also can help ease the transition from inpatient treatment to home by offering on-campus day treatment in a setting that is warm, nurturing, safe, and comfortable. The goal of the program is to help prepare for a successful transition back to home, work, or school by addressing and managing the symptoms that can make these transitions so difficult. An evaluation or direct referral for any of Fairmount's services can be scheduled by calling the 24-Hour Assessment Center at 215-487-4100.
