Biography

I am a licensed psychologist in California, a Distinguished Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT), and a Certified cognitive therapist through the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. I have been very involved in innovations in CBT and a great majority of my time I teach CBT to mental health professionals worldwide. Along with Kathleen Mooney, PhD, I co-founded the Center for Cognitive Therapy in Huntington Beach, California and co-created Strengths-Based CBT.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?

I have been privileged to be co-author of the best-selling self-help book, "Mind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think" which has 1,000,000 copies in print in English and is translated into 22 languages. We are pleased to announce the release of the 2nd Edition of "Mind Over Mood" this coming October 2015. For details, visit our website for the public: http://www.MindOverMood.com

What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?

Depression, anxiety and personality disorders.

What are you proud of in your practice?

Developing Strengths-Based Cognitive Therapy with Dr. Mooney as well as my teaching of Mental Health professionals.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?

Through the publication of our self-help book, "Mind Over Mood", my co-author Dr. Greenberger and I have been able to reach over 1 million readers in 23 languages around the world. I have been able to address and help increase the public’s understanding and awareness of psychology in some significant ways. In 2003, the California Psychological Association honored me with the “Distinguished Contribution to Psychology” award. The Distinguished Contribution to Psychology award honors a psychologist or non-psychologist who has improved the image of psychology by increasing the public’s understanding of the discipline and/or the profession of psychology.
