What makes your practice special when compared with others in the area?

Psychotherapy is a proven tool, which allows you to honestly examine your past and current relationships, behavior and communication patterns, and life choices. The purpose of therapy is to work together with your therapist, through a caring and confidential relationship, to develop insight into your thoughts and feelings and to learn some of the tools necessary to live the most fulfilling life of your own choosing: You may find yourself living a life in routines that were shaped by circumstances and relationships from your past. You may find yourself currently feeling stuck in relationships and/or jobs that do not feel meaningful or are limiting you. You may be overwhelmed by too much negativity in your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about yourself. You may feel powerless to communicate effectively with your parents, children, partner, or work associates and can feel misunderstood, frustrated, and alone. Though sometimes painful, the therapy process can help to remove barriers that have been interfering with living a meaningful and rich life.

What are you and your team proud of at your practice?

Dr. Tova Rubin is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 10 years of experience working with individuals and couples. She has worked in a variety of settings including public and private Psychiatric Hospitals, Community mental health facilities-both inpatient and outpatient, University Counseling Services, as well as Emergency Room service. In developing her therapy skills, Dr. Rubin has learned from many therapeutic modalities such as client-centered therapy, existential therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy and solution-focused therapy. She brings a unique awareness and ability to "listen between the lines" to her work that allows her to shine light on areas of relationships and patterns of communication that are sometimes clouded. Dr. Rubin graduated with distinction from the doctoral program at Vanderbilt University and moved to San Antonio in 2001 to complete her residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center. She was selected for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Rubin taught "The Science of Positive Psychology" at UTSA and served as clinical faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center where she supervised Psychiatric Residents. She was president of the Bexar County Psychological Association from 2004 to 2005. Dr. Rubin was proud to serve the San Antonio community until her recent relocation to the Washington DC area.
