About

After many years of rigorous education and, more importanly, diverse clinical practice, Dr. Irena Vaksman, a San Francisco dentist, truly understands the value of quality patient care – and how to provide it. Adhering to the principles of conservative dentistry, she continually stresses the importance of treating less patients per day, and spending more time with each one. This allows her to effectively educate patients about preventative dental health or, if medically necessary, about treatment options for an existing condition. In addition to graduating New York University School of Dentistry’s prestigious Advanced Education in General Residency program, Dr. Vaksman has many years of extensive expertise in both clinical and cosmetic practices, as well as serving as a restorative dentistry instructor at University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. Dr. Vaksman stays on the forefront of cosmetic and preventative dentistry through advanced continuing dental education, and is also committed to keeping the San Francisco dental office “green-friendly” through such things as: computerized X-rays (to minimize radiation exposure and eliminate film processing chemicals), sanitized and filtered water, and a mercury-free policy. Most importantly, Dr. Vaksman has devoted her career to treating all of her patients with the greatest care, and providing each patient with the best quality treatment. She also believes in giving back to her community by contributing time and resources to several charitable organizations. She is a local board member of Smiles For a Lifetime, a national organization devoted to providing free orthodontic dental care to underprivileged kids; and is also a committee member of the Jewish Family & Children’s Services, where she helps to organize community outreach programs. The office also participates in Operation Gratitude by helping to gather care packages, which are meant to show our appreciation to our troops with the aim of lifting morale. Dr. Vaksman is a true Bay Area local, having attended grade school through university here. She and her husband are the proud parents of three beautiful boys, Charlie, Jack and Ethan.

In the overall experience I felt heard about what my concerns were. They explained to me my current situation and provided me with a referral that was in my network which was a concern of mine. Any questions I had were answered and during my appointment they made me feel at ease.

Overall a great experience. Very little time spent waiting, staff was very prompt and efficient. Each team member was incredibly knowledgeable and did a thorough job of explaining each part of the process from x-rays to cleanings to examination by the doctor. Never felt like i was being judged for the quality of my oral hygiene nor were they pushy about needing any procedures or extra work like i have experienced in the past. Would highly recommend this practice.

I had a great experience with not only Dr. Vaksman but also Dr. Gupta and all of the very friendly, patient-oriented staff. They ensured I was comfortable throughout my visits and the hygienists and the Dentists both clearly explained what they were doing and took the time to talk through all of my treatment and recommendations.

First timer here and was a bit nervous. Dr. Issa was the most professional and greatest dentist that I’ve ever had. Did half of my gun cleaning and weirdly looking forward to the next.

The staff was wonderful. I went in for a cleaning, and they made sure it was a smooth, painless process. I am happy to say I found a new dentist as a recent transplant to SF. I am really happy with their practice. Dr. L'ebo is wonderful and so was her staff.

Dr Lebo was very experienced and was able to walk me through what was happening in my mouth and also show me the different materials coming out of my mouth. The x-rays were pretty tedious though and at one point it was in such an uncomfortable position I couldn't breathe through my mouth or my nose. Overall, good experience!

I went for my first visit today at the Vaksman Dental Group office over at 450 Sutter St. I got to the office about 30 minutes early and the great thing was that all my paperwork was completed beforehand so I did not have to fill anything out. They did not have a lot of patients that day so I was able to start my appointment right when I arrived. The dental assistant gave me my X-Rays and also took pictures of my teeth with this really cool pen. The only negative I have to say about this experience is that the X-Ray portion of the appointment took a really long time--more than it usually takes in any other dental office I've been in (not sure if it was the software or if they were being overly cautious). This was also the first office that I've been to where the actual dentist came in to clean my teeth and check on me. Dr. Kayla L'ebo was really upbeat, professional, and courteous. The dental assistant finished up with flossing and polish. Overall, I don't think there was any hiccups to this appointment and I like the location. The office is a bit small and is an open floorplan so depending on where you sit, you can kind of see someone getting their teeth done.

The initial exam was thorough, and everything was explained as we went along. This was the most educational dentist experience I have had yet. The hygienist and dentist were careful as they worked, and I felt quite comfortable while they worked. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

The office was nice, the staff was warm and welcoming, The hygienist was great and so was the dentist. So why the three star review? I confirmed with them ahead of time (before appt), in the office, and upon leaving, that I would be charged $0 for this, because my insurance covers everything since they have used them before (they knew if this and told me this). It wasn’t until about a week later but I got a statement in the mail claiming that I had to pay $67 after insurance for my yearly cleaning. I thought that was odd, so I called the dentist office. She made it seem as if they hadn’t worked with Guardian before, and they weren’t sure why they were charging me for the photos they took of my mouth. Only after questioning several times, did the front office person tell me that Guardian does not cover for this line item (“something we only do the first time,” she told me). After complaining several times and wondering why I was charged for this and why I was not told ahead of time, she finally agreed she would attempt to remove the charge from billing. Fine. Because of this, I wanted to cancel my appointment the next week because I wasn’t sure what I was going to be charged (and they said my insurance would again, cover everything). She sort of gave me some attitude and then hung up on me. I called back to make sure my appointment was canceled and that she was going to remove the billing. She said “yes,” and that was that. Overall, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended).

Dr. Kayla Lebo at the office saw me for my checkup, and I was extremely impressed with the overall experience. She was very detailed with my cleaning and checkup, and I left with a very reasonable treatment plan. Didn’t feel highly pressured like I’ve felt at different offices, makes me way more comfortable coming back. The administrative stuff was great too, front desk documents were filled out on an iPad (yay), appointment reminders through email and phone.

I have never had so much in-depth explanation of the examination and cleaning processes, as well as the exact preventative functions of flossing, brushing, fillings, etc. The office atmosphere was peaceful and quiet, and I look forward to coming back! Thank you so much!

Great location and I really liked Dr. Vaksman. The office is a little older than a lot in the area and they don't have the "Netflix" setup while you have your teeth cleaned etc. Happy to forego the perks for a good dentist.

A super clean and modern office. Staff is really nice and they actually put some fluoride paste on my teeth which I have never had at a dentist's office before. Also, it's downtown on Sutter which was very convenient for me.

Dr. Vaksman was extremely kind, patient and gentle - I would recommend her to any and all! It's been a while since I visited a dentist for more than just a cleaning, and she explained everything she was doing & why, and was extremely through and yet gentle at the same time. She also had incredible bedside manner - checking in with me often to make sure I was doing okay, making recommendations rather than hard sells on treatment plans and options, and even going so far as to distract me so I didn't feel the Novocain needle! So glad to find such a thoughtful and kind dentist out in the bay area.

I haven't been to the dentist in 2.5 years and knew I had completely erased all of the good work I'd had done years before that. I was not "over-sold" on deep-cleaning, etc. - I know I need it. And quite possible a root canal. But Dr. Vaksman did not try to oversell me at all. On the contrary, she hopes to be conservative and fix the cavity with a large filling and avoid a root canal.
