What makes your practice special when compared with others in the area?
Dr. Kohler is currently practicing medical acupuncture full-time. His practice primarily consists of treating severe chronic pain injured patients but he also has experience in treating full spectrum of medical conditions using acupuncture. Dr. Kohler graduated from the University Chicago perceptual medicine in 1976. He was trained in general surgery at University of Chicago and Michael Reese Hospital. After his general surgery training he was board certified in general surgery. He then was trained in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the University of Illinois which included rotations at Cook County Hospital. He was board certified in thoracic surgery after his training. Throughout the years of his education and training, Dr. Kohler has pursued scientific investigation beginning with immunology specifically related to the lung and pleura, pulmonary pathophysiology related to sepsis and shock, cardiac biochemistry and physiology related to cardiac surgery. He was a recipient of the Resident Research prize of the Chicago Surgical Society in 1979. Since 1984, Dr. Kohler has lived in the greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania region practicing general surgery, thoracic and vascular surgery in private practice. He was the director of the noninvasive vascular laboratory for the Department of Surgery at the Graduate Hospital. He was also the co-chief of general surgery at West jersey Camden Division.
What are you and your team proud of at your practice?
Since 1993, Dr. Kohler pursued training in acupuncture which has become a major aspect of his medical practice. Since 2011, Dr. Kohler has practiced acupuncture full-time and does not perform surgical operations. Dr. Kohler is certified by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture and the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. Dr. Kohler has presented at courses and national meetings in acupuncture. He participated in the founding of a local Delaware Valley/Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. He has served as the president of the local chapter on two occasions. Since the time he began study in medical acupuncture, Dr. Kohler has continued to attend educational offerings in order to broaden and improve his knowledge and skill in providing acupuncture treatment. He has studied various subjects including: five elements, traditional Chinese medicine, energetic acupuncture, herbal medical treatment, sports medicine, correlation of acupuncture treatment with anatomy, scalp acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, Korean hand acupuncture, percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation Battlefield acupuncture. Dr. Kohler utilizes his medical anatomy, physiology and pathology knowledge and experience as well as his knowledge and experience in Oriental medicine to formulate an individual treatment plan for each patient who comes to the office.
