About
Dr. Hammes is a native to the Chicago area, having grown up in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Dentistry in 2008. Dr. Hammes began his dental career with the U.S. Navy, serving as the dental officer aboard two different amphibious assault ships. From there, he was then division officer of Oral Diagnosis at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes. In this role, he was in charge of providing general dental care to staff personnel as well as dental sick call for the 39,000 recruits who go through basic training there each year. From 2013-2014, Dr. Hammes completed a one-year Fellowship in Implant Dentistry at the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, Illinois. He is dedicated to excellent patient care in a comfortable environment, oral health. He stays up to date in the advances in dentistry through continuing education. Dr. Hammes enjoys travel, the outdoors, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends.

I have been practicing dentistry for over 9 years and have gained a wide range of clinical experience. I have extensive experience in both general and implant dentistry gained from private practice, my implant fellowship, and the Navy. We have a great staff and modern office where we will take outstanding care of your oral health needs. We have natural light in all our dental operatories, a massage feature in the dental chairs, and free on-site parking.

I enjoy treating all cases but especially enjoy the ability improve someone's confidence in their smile. I particularly like cases that utilize implants and/or Invisalign to improve a patient's function and esthetics.

My first exam was extremely thorough (give yourself 1.5-2 hours!), with xrays, a Dental Cone-beam Computed Tomography scan, pictures of my teeth to monitor erosion over time (since I clench my jaw at night), + your typical scraping, polishing and fluoride. Delta Dental has great coverage there, with the only cost being the fluoride at $40. Dr. Hammes took the time to explain all of my x-rays and images to me in depth; it was fascinating, and I learned so much! His office is beautiful, and I loved getting to watch Netflix (Blue Planet) while I had my cleaning. Dr. Hammes is down-to-earth and genuine. You can tell he really cares about his patients, and enjoys what he does! He explained everything clearly and walked me through each step of the appointment. He was thoughtful in his treatment plan for my cavity and made me feel comfortable with what he saw/was recommended.

My only reason for not giving 5 stars, was that the office was a bit hard to find, which was frustrating at first (BUT they are working on getting better signage - I think the space is quite new). I did have a little wait as well and the initial hygienist I spoke with before the Dr. kind of confused me with too many details up front. But all in all I think everyone was really nice and once I saw the Dr. everything was easy to understand and he talked me through things step by step. Dr. Hammes walked me through the x-rays and described what he was looking for in them and what constituted healthy teeth. He discussed any questions I had or issues I'd been having so he could determine what was going on. He then performed a physical examination of my teeth and walked me through the results and my treatment plan. Afterwards, he did a thorough cleaning and suggested multiple products that would help with my sensitivity. From the time I entered the office until my check out, I was taken care of right away and made sure all my questions were addressed. The office, service and staff were all very welcoming, friendly, professional and knowledgeable (though they all laughed at how I broke my tooth). They assisted me thru every step of my emergency appointment, directions to the office, excused my late arrival and gave me several options in treatment with excellent attention to insurance coverage and benefit detail. They even assisted me the very next day with changing the date of my follow up appointment. Location was also convenient.
