Dr. Tasha Hotz grew up in Barrie, Ontario. She received an Honours B.Sc degree from the University of Western Ontario. Upon completing her undergraduate studies, she married her husband Mike and they headed to Oregon where she received her Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University. Her training included rotations with Indian Health Services in Wyoming and Veterans Affairs in Oregon. Dr. Hotz worked in private practice in B.C. where she enjoyed focusing on primary care and co-managing ocular disease. While at school Dr. Hotz participated in two eyecare mission trips. These trips to the Philippines and Costa Rica were great learning experiences and very rewarding. She hopes to participate in many more trips like these in the future. Tasha and her husband enjoyed their time in the Pacific Northwest but after the birth of their twin girls, they decided it was time to move a little closer to home. They love exploring the area, especially hiking to the many waterfalls.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?

Dr. Hotz enjoys seeing and treating all age groups. She especially enjoys visiting with and treating the geriatric population thanks to her training at a Veteran Affairs Hospital in Oregon. Dr. Hotz also loves to see infants for their first eye exam which is recommended at 6-9 months old. Dr. Hotz thinks it's important to take the time to give patients a thorough exam and talk through her findings.

What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?

Dr. Hotz has begun implementing low vision services into the practice. These services aim to help those individuals that have decreased vision due to diseases like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Hotz also co-manages many ocular diseases with local ophthalmologists such as cataracts and glaucoma Dr. Hotz can diagnose and treat ocular infections and can often see patients sooner than their primary care physician

What are you proud of in your practice?

SaveSight's team has great customer service and loves coming to work. Each member of the team is vital to ensuring that our patients leave happy. They work very hard to ensure the doctors' schedules run smoothly.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?

Dr. Hotz loves providing low vision aids because it can help patients regain some independence that they thought they may have lost forever. It's also great treating young children that didn't know they needed glasses and watching them really see for the first time.
