Biography

My education consists of a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Grand Valley State University, and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. I am also licensed as a TLLP in the State of Michigan. This allows me to perform intellectual and psychological testing as well as diagnose and treat mental health disorders. In addition, I receive ongoing supervision from a licensed psychologist. I have several years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults in the psychiatric inpatient and outpatient settings. My focus in therapy is to encourage and promote psychological growth of children, adolescents, couples, and families by implementing a holistic approach. My approach challenges unhealthy and unrealistic thoughts of the self, others, and world by encouraging replacement of self-defeating behavior to promote a more positive and healthy lifestyle. I also incorporate evaluation and assessment in the process of therapy, in order to fully understand the client’s level of functioning and develop appropriate treatment goals. Specifically, I assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning within the context of the client’s environment by way of relationships and social connectedness. My areas of specialty include working with children, adolescents, and adults struggling with ADHD, learning disabilities, neurodevelopment difficulties, depression, anxiety, adjustment, marriage/family conflict, and behavioral issues. In addition to providing counseling services, I am trained in administration and interpretation of comprehensive psychological, educational, and neuropsychological assessments of children, adolescents, and adults with psychological, cognitive, and behavioral difficulties. I emphasize the importance of understanding a client holistically by examining several areas of functioning and make appropriate recommendations. I am presently able to perform psychological and educational assessments, including ADHD, intellectual functioning, learning disabilities, personality and mood evaluations.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
