Dr. W. Craig McDermit
In life I have traveled from self-doubt to self-affirmation; from depending on others to take care of my needs to being able to provide for myself whatever I need to prosper. In doing so I hope to experience purpose in this life and aspire to help others others foster their own autonomy and discover for themselves what it means to be alive and purposeful in this world and to accomplish something meaningful before it's time to depart.
Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
I've been in private practice as a psychologist in San Francisco for 30 years and know what I'm doing. I bring a unique approach to each individual and have worked with lots of people from various cultures and "specialized" identities. We work as a collaborative team and jointly agree upon goals and methods to be utilized. It's a "highly personalized" approach for each individual. If for any reason I doubt that I can be helpful to a person; I'll acknowledge it and help direct them to a better suited clinician if possible.
What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?
I like working with a wide range of issues and peoples. Three treatments I "specialize" in are: -individual psychotherapy -working with creative individuals -dream interpretation (always up to the client; an "elective" not a "requirement)
What are you proud of in your practice?
I like what I do. I've practiced for over 30 years, and I'm good at it.
Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?
I enjoy working with people, who have a sense of self or are in search of their sense of self. The purpose of life is to learn who you are; define and accomplish your goals; contribute to the world in whatever ways you are able to; be as creative and effective as possible; and not regret having wasted your time among us.
