I saw Dr Shehata for a total of 5 minutes, the X-rays themselves were more painful than normal. Immediately I was referred to a specialist and recommended for a deep cleaning because I’m diabetic and it goes hand in hand with gum disease. I don’t mind the recommendations and in fact I am going to do all of them, however the predatory practices of this dental office is very off-putting. The front desk told me it was ILLEGAL for them to give me anything but a deep cleaning, and when I questioned that she said that “the state of CA doesn’t allow it” even though I had previous dentists tell me multiple times that I don’t need a deep cleaning (I understand that things change as we get older). My issue was that I was told it was illegal and I didn’t have a choice to get a regular maintenance cleaning. Currently it’s not in my budget to do a deep cleaning. She went ahead and scheduled me and told me I could talk to the dental hygienist on the day of the cleaning. This was the MOST painful cleaning I’ve ever had. I was tense and sweating the whole time. I’m pretty tolerant on pain. I was also left with the air sucker thing for 5-10 minutes with no one working on my to the point where a nurse checked on me twice and had to tell the hygienist that she left me there. I had sores in my mouth after. Dr Shehata is probably very capable and found the root cause to my tooth pain, but the practice isn’t my cup of tea.
