Biography

My education consists of a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Grand Valley State University, and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. I am also licensed as an LLP in the State of Michigan. This allows me to perform intellectual and psychological testing as well as diagnose and treat mental health disorders. In addition, I receive ongoing supervision from a fully licensed psychologist. Professional experience for me consists of over 20 years working with adults and children in various capacities. In the neglect/foster care system I performed case management, family reunification, and therapy. At the Friend of the Court, I worked as a Parenting Time Facilitator and Mediator/Evaluator, assisting clients in reaching agreements pertaining to parenting time issues affecting their children, performing parenting time assessments, and mutually agreed upon modifications of court-ordered parenting time. For many years I provided both individual and group therapy to sexually abused children and their families, as well as victims of domestic violence and their assailants. That was followed by therapeutic assessment and treatment of juvenile sex offenders in my work in the Family Court as a Juvenile Probation Officer. For more than 20 years I have been providing court testimony related to various issues affecting parents and children, and have been qualified as an expert witness in childhood trauma and sexual abuse in several counties. I am well-versed in issues pertaining to special needs adoption that affect both parents and adoptees. My client base has also included working with many children and adolescents with cognitive impairments, and developing a therapeutic style that is appropriate in meeting their specific needs. I am also trained in Court-Rule Mediation. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for clients in order for them to process individual difficulties, devise a plan of action, and facilitate emotional health and well-being. I view myself as a coach to help identify strengths, determine what may be hindering progress, and pave the way for progress.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
