Dr. Bear Korngold
Welcome to my psychotherapy practice. My work is dedicated to helping people develop healthy, productive, and satisfying lives and relationships. Though it can be difficult to make the decision to begin psychotherapy, I have found that those who have sought my help and guidance have achieved remarkable results. I offer confidential psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families. I have particular expertise in working with couples. My approach with couples is fair, kind and collaborative. I also work extensively with individual patients, dealing with difficulties ranging from depression, anxiety and trauma to trouble with relationships, creative blocks and challenging life transitions. The benefit you receive from therapy is directly related to your feeling of comfort and connection with your therapist. I am committed to helping you receive the services best suited for you, so I am happy to discuss your circumstances to determine whether working together would be a good fit. Please explore this website to learn a bit more about my practice and do not hesitate to contact me for an appointment or simply to ask any questions you might have. I look forward to hearing from you and helping in any way that I am able.
Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
I offer confidential psychotherapy for individuals and couples, and sometimes larger family or work groups. I am also available for consultation, psychotherapy supervision, and referrals to other health providers. I am committed to helping you receive the services best suited for you, so I am happy to discuss your circumstances to determine if working together in individual therapy or couples therapy would be a good fit. Please contact me for a free phone consultation. If for any reason we determine that you would be better served elsewhere I will gladly provide you with a referral.
What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?
I specialize in working with couples. My approach in couples therapy is fair, kind and collaborative. Often couples that come to me for help have found themselves locked into a certain pattern of relating that leads again and again to the problems they are hoping to address in couples therapy. I help couples identify and alter these patterns, often with insight into how they developed in the first place. We might also explore the connection between these patterns and each partner’s experience of early formative relationships. I work with couples to address a variety of goals or challenges, some of which might include: • improving communication • establishing a strong and loving relationship • frequent fighting and arguing • pre-marital counseling • relationship problems • sexual problems • parenting • managing a separation or divorce • recovering from affairs • negotiating new life circumstances, such as marriage, child birth, fertility issues, “empty nest”, blended families, major financial changes I also see individual patients dealing with issues ranging from depression, anxiety and trauma to trouble with relationships, creative blocks and difficult life transitions. In individual therapy, I specialize in helping people overcome motivational and occupational obstacles, improve and revitalize unsatisfying romantic, social, or work relationships, cope with grief and loss, and manage the emotional components of physical illness. I have a particular interest in the relationship between bodily and emotional distress. My individual psychotherapy practice includes but is not limited to treatment for the following conditions or circumstances: • depression, sadness, loneliness • grief and loss • anxiety, shyness, self-esteem, panic • relationship difficulties • living with chronic illness or disability • trauma and abuse • parenting • infidelity, separation or divorce • sexual issues • life transitions • personal growth • encouraging and harnessing creativity • career issues • managing major mental illness Even if you do not see your particular condition or circumstance listed above, I encourage you to give me a call to discuss your needs and goals for individual therapy. If I am not the best person to help with your situation I will always try to make an appropriate referral.
What are you proud of in your practice?
I am committed to helping individuals and couples achieve marked improvement in their lives, relationships and work.
Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?
I enjoy many different types of cases. There are certain struggles that we all tend to encounter in life and we each approach and are impacted by those struggles in unique ways. I work hard to understand each person or couple from their own point of reference and tailor the treatment accordingly.
