I am a Traditional Naturopath, a Clinical Nutritionist, a Herbalist, a Bodyworker, a Healer and a Health and Wellness Educator. Naturopathic medicine employs complementary and alternative medical therapies to help improve the body's intrinsic ability to heal and maintain itself. Practitioners of naturopathic medicine prefer to use natural remedies such as botanical tinctures/medicinal herbs and foods rather than synthetic drugs. Naturopathic practice includes many different modalities. Practitioners emphasize a holistic approach to patient care, and may recommend that patients use conventional medicine alongside their recommended holistic treatments. Clinical Nutrition is the practice of analyzing bodily fluids and functions to determine if a person is consuming an adequate amount of nutrients for good health. A clinical nutritionist is concerned with how nutrients in food are processed, stored and discarded by your body, along with how what you eat affects your overall well-being. Your nutritional needs are assessed based on your family and medical history, lifestyle and possibly laboratory tests in order to make recommendations on your diet and individual nutritional needs. A clinical nutritionist may provide advice on changes to your diet that may help prevent diseases. Herbalism is a system of healing that relies on plants as the source of correcting imbalances in the body that cause disease by strengthening the immune system; balancing the hormonal system; supporting the digestive system, etc. Modern herbalism is based on remedies and techniques tried and tested through generations of use but increasingly re-evaluated in the modern medical research. An important feature of herbalism is that remedies are used to support and modify disturbed body functions rather than to treat the symptoms of disease. Bodywork is any therapeutic technique that uses the hands to work with the human body using manipulative therapy, movement, breath work, or energy medicine. In addition bodywork techniques aim to assess or improve posture, promote awareness of the "mind-body connection", or to manipulate the "energy field" surrounding the human body. Holistic Health and Wellness Education is an alternative or complementary educational approach to health that focuses on achieving the balance required for optimal health in the areas of lifestyle, diet, nutrition, physical fitness, mental well-being, healthy relationships, stress reduction and spirituality.
